TIP FOR THE WEEK

July 3, 2000

Asian American E-consumers:

Are you missing a marketing opportunity for your Internet business by forgetting the large number of techno-loving Asian Americans? As a category, ‘Asian American’ includes a variety of cultures and peoples from countries throughout the Asian-Pacific Island and South Asia regions, such as China, Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam and India.

Recent census figures indicate there are over 11 million U.S. residents of Asian ancestry. Two leading Internet research firms, Forrester Research Inc. and Jupiter Communications Inc., estimate 69% of Asian American households (a total of about 2.2 million) are online.

Nelson Wong, an SF native and entrepreneur, spends about 20 hours a week cruising for websites of interest to Asian Americans; he’s posted some 2,500 links on his own site: AArising.com.

New commercial websites that hope to target this growing audience include:
www.aOnline.com
www.Click2Asia.com
www.AsianConnections.com
www.AsianAdventure.com
www.AsianScene.com
www.AsiaDera.com

If you’re looking for some strategic alliances for this target group or just want some insight into something other than ‘mainstream culture,’ check out a few of these. Each site has its own look & feel and caters to a slightly different niche.
