Net Metrics
If you’re like me you’ve tried out a lot of email newsletters (the
new-economy version of the pre-web ‘listservs’) and probably had to sort
through a lot of rubbish to get any good information.
After trying out my share, I’m passing on one that I think consistently
delivers useful net-centered research in a useable format. It’s the Metrics
Report produced by the Industry Standard, one of my favorite internet
hardcopy mags.
The report comes as an email and highlights around 10 items; each item
generally has a headline, a byline, a sentence summarizing the research, and
an html link. You can get a lot of information just by skimming the summary
entries; or you can dive in for the details.
Some sample items from a recent report:
- Companies Pour Cash Into Net Ads
By Diane Anderson
Internet advertising spending in 1999 reached $4.62 billion, a 141
percent increase over 1998 figures.
- Auction Adrenaline
Consumer-to-consumer online auction revenue will climb from $4 billion
in 1999 to more than $15 billion in 2004.
- Navigation: An E-Commerce Must
Online consumers prefer Web sites that are easy to navigate over ones
with fast download times.
- Bookmark This Page
Net users bookmark an average of 65 Web pages, according to online
search community HotLinks.
